Mysteries of the Jesus Prayer

Rev. Dr. John McGuckin and Dr. Norris Chumley travel to ancient lands to film the hermits, monks and nuns who share for the first time an ancient mystical prayer with the outside world.  The prayer, Kyrie Eleison, is thought to have been practiced by the Apostles some 2,000 years ago.

Chumley and McGuckin trace the footsteps of these desert hermits, monks and nuns, who fled the noise and decadence of city life to dedicate themselves to the life of the spirit. The filmmakers are committed to bringing this largely unknown chapter of early Christian history to life, as they focus on the mysteries behind the prayer, still chanted in far away caves and monasteries.
