The Truth Will Set You Free

The Truth Will Set You Free

The Truth Will Set You Free focuses on Bishop Gene Robinson and a host of others whose lives hang in the balance of the church/state battles for LGBT equality.

Gene is the first openly gay partnered person to be consecrated a bishop in the three largest high church traditions of Christendom (Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Anglican).  His historic elevation by the Episcopal Church in America in June 2003 has caused controversy within the worldwide Anglican Communion and a constant stream of death threats to Gene and his family.  It has also changed the global landscape of religion and public life and the change continues daily (follow our Twitter feed: MackyAlston).

Award-winning filmmakers - Director Macky Alston (Family Name, Questioning Faith) and Producer Sandy Itkoff (Cadillac Desert, The Killer Within, Defamation) have been traveling with Gene through this personal and historic journey. Truth follows Gene from his 2008 civil union to the Lambeth Conference that same year to Barack Obama's inauguration to the fight for gay marriage in New Hampshire to the 2009 Episcopal General Convention to the upcoming consecration of the second openly gay Episcopal Bishop, Mary Glasspool, this May.

At each of these events to date history was made.  These events will continue to determine the course of this country and the religious institutions within it and send a loud message to the world about human rights, faith and the full humanity of LGBT people.
