What Do You Believe?

What Do You Believe?

In this award-winning documentary, a number of teenagers who are Catholic,  Muslim, Sikh, Jewish, Buddhist, Christian Evangelist, Pagan, North American and Hindu share their most personal struggles and beliefs about faith, morality, suffering and death, prayer, the purpose of life, and the divine.

Without a hint of dogma, the teens candidly discuss everything from hormones to heaven, they deflate misperceptions and stereotypes at every turn, and they make a strong case for a more tolerant America. These articulate teenagers are diverse and delightful and the viewer gains a broad picture of the religious and spiritual lives of American youth.

A sensitively filmed discussion-provoker about the issues that are at the heart of being human, What Do You Believe provides a path to open conversation with teenagers about religion and spirituality.

Consider the varied comments about the act of prayer: “I pray to surrender.”  “I pray when I get scared.”  “I don’t know how to.”  “Prayer doesn’t seem to have much purpose.” “I pray most about girls.” “It’s about yourself. Making yourself better.” “God doesn’t want you wasting your time worshipping in prayer.  He wants you to get out there and do something good.”
