Yoga Chants
Drawing from the Upanishads and other classical yoga texts, Yoga Chants includes ancient Vedic chant and chants in classical Sanskrit for Yoga practitioners.
Sanskrit is designed as a language of sacred chant, according to Richard Freeman, who provides an introduction to chanting on Disc 1. Freeman lived for nearly a decade in India, mastering Sanskrit chant and how it can complement and enrich the practice of yoga. His instructional program focuses on the authentic meaning, precise pronunciation, and yogic application of traditional Sanskrit chant. He believes that chant completes yoga practice in a way no pose alone can.
The second disc involves a wide range of Sanskrit chants from simple metered invocations to lyrical devotional songs.
Chanting and mantra recitation have been part of the practice of Yoga for thousands of years. Chanting is both the intoning of and simultaneous listening to rich vibratory sounds, and embodies meanings to be contemplated.
