In Good Conscience
In Good Conscience follows intelligent, gentle and humorous Sister Jeannine Gramick as she takes her fight against Catholic edicts on homosexuality right to the Vatican’s doorstep.
Unassuming, but with an unwavering sense of the need for inclusivity, Sister Gramick defies an order from the Vatican to cease ministering to gay and lesbian Catholics. She also ignores an order to remain silent on homosexual issues.
Director Barbara Rick chronicles Sister Gramick’s true story in collaboration with cinematographer Albert Maysles. They follow Sister Gramick in her church work, her search for a new Catholic order with which to align and, ultimately, her travels to Rome to attempt an audience with then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, soon to become Pope Benedict XVI.
