The Rise of the Religious Right in America

With God On Our Side

This six-part series spans a tumultuous 40-year period in the United States that marks the rise of evangelical politics. With God on Our Side, filmed in 19 states, chronicles a number of emerging trends: post-war fundamentalism, the birth of the Religious Right, the polarizing White House Conference on Families in the 70s, the Moral Majority movement of the 80s, the political brouhaha over positions taken by C. Everett Koop and Pat Robertson, and the grassroots power structure assembled by the Christian Coalition, Operation Rescue, the Promise Keepers and others.

"We talked to people from every walk of life - preachers, school teachers, nurses, professors, an EST trainer, television producers," series producer David Van Taylor said. "You can't pigeonhole, and the stereotypes are not true."
