In Beauty I Walk
The Indian cultures of the Americas are reflected in the audio meditation In Beauty I Walk, recordings of Native American flutes, panpipes and ocarinas. This compilation of Coyote Oldman recordings beautifully projects the sounds of these ancient wind instruments filtered through electronic sound design.
Flutist Michael Graham Allen and recording engineer Barry Stramp make up the group Coyote Oldman. Coyote was a trickster and sometimes fool of Native American mythology and Allen and Stramp use Native American iconography to give their music a spiritual grounding.
Coyote Oldmanuses both traditional and hybrid flutes, or flutes from different cultures and times, as well as experimental flutes, which are giant bass versions of the Lakota style flute. Allen is the craftsman and voice of the duo and Stramp, who is classically trained in concert flute and composition and studied engineering and physics, provides the expansive soundscapes for Allen's flutes.
